The red water tower at left in this street scene helps us to identify the setting as the Parisian neighborhood of Montmartre. Built in 1835, the tower no longer served as a water source for the neighborhood by the time Utrillo painted this image. It still stands today, opposite the Parc Jean-Baptiste Clément, although it lacks the distinct red brick facade seen here.
