FROM THE BARNES FOUNDATION’S CATALOG

Utrillo painted many depictions of the neighborhood of Montmartre in Paris. He used postcards to model the scenes, as in this painting of rue du Mont-Cenis. He has removed all the residents save for one small figure in the distance and has obscured many of the shop names.
