Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect the minimum needed to learn your taste in art and run the Service. We don’t sell your data and we don’t run ads. We do use two analytics tools that record how the site is used, so we can find what’s broken or confusing and fix it.

1. What we collect

  • Account information — your email address, the name you choose to display, and an optional profile photo.
  • Taste activity — your reactions to artworks (love, save, skip, “not for me”) and the collections you create. This is the heart of the product: it’s how your feed learns your eye.
  • Contributions — comments and perspectives you post, and reports you submit.
  • Usage activity — how you move through the site: pages you view, clicks, scrolling, and similar interactions, recorded by the analytics tools described in section 4 so we can see where the experience breaks.
  • Technical basics — standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability.

2. How we use it

  • To personalize your feed — taste activity exists solely to show you art you’ll love.
  • To send transactional email: your welcome and email-confirmation message, and notifications when someone replies to you (which you can manage from your account).
  • To send the optional monthly digest of works you love that are on museum walls — only if you opt in, and you can opt out anytime.
  • To keep the community healthy: moderation, spam prevention, and enforcing our guidelines.

3. What we don’t do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information. Ever.
  • We do not run third-party advertising on the Service.
  • We do not use advertising networks, and we don’t follow you onto other websites or build a picture of you as you browse elsewhere.

4. Service providers

A small number of providers process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Supabase — database and authentication (where your account and taste profile live).
  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery.
  • FullStory and Contentsquare (Hotjar) — product analytics and session replay. They record how the Service is used — pages viewed, clicks, scrolling — so we can find and fix what’s broken or confusing. They run only on the live site, they are not advertising tools, and we don’t sell what they collect.
  • Replicate — computes the visual “fingerprints” of artworks that power the taste engine. It processes artwork images, not your personal data.

5. Cookies

We use a handful of first-party, functional cookies, and our two analytics tools set their own. We don’t use advertising cookies. The full list, with what each one does, is in our Cookie Policy.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and personal details are removed, your taste profile is detached from your identity, and your past comments are anonymized (shown as “An art lover”) — or removed entirely on request. To delete your account or request removal, use your account page or email info@discoverart.com.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including California and the EU/EEA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Email info@discoverart.com and we’ll honor these requests wherever they apply. We don’t discriminate against you for exercising them.

8. Children

DiscoverArt is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), httpOnly session cookies, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We’ll post updates here with a new "last updated" date, and notify account holders of material changes by email where appropriate.
