Hermine David, a fellow artist and Pascin's partner, is recognizable thanks to her long, aquiline nose and square-cut ginger hair. David left Paris in 1914 to join Pascin in Brooklyn, where he had found refuge from the war in Europe. Together, they toured the South, drawing side by side. David was also a frequent model, and Pascin often depicted her engaged in domestic activities such as sewing, reading, or dressing—though rarely while practicing her own art.
