This painting is most likely a copy of a famous 15th-century portrait of King Charles VII of France by Jean Fouquet. The original work, now in the Musée du Louvre, was a major source of inspiration for artists like Chaim Soutine (also in this gallery), who spent hours studying the traditions of art in the galleries of Paris.
