FROM THE BARNES FOUNDATION’S CATALOG

Cézanne designed only three lithographs during his career, largely at the request of his dealer, Ambroise Vollard. Vollard published The Small Bathers in a special album of prints in 1897. The composition is closely related to multiple bather paintings and watercolors that Cézanne executed in the 1890s. Cézanne worked with the printmaker Auguste Clot to produce his lithographs. This example is from the first edition of color prints that Clot pulled, featuring Cézanne's signature on the bottom right.
