Allart van Everdingen practiced multiple artistic trades—as painter, etcher, and even art dealer. He traveled widely, especially to Norway and Sweden, and landscapes of his wanderings became one of his most frequent subjects. This etching is an independent work, though a number of landscape series in similar formats are featured among his oeuvre of some 166 prints.
