FROM THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART’S CATALOG

Gros specialized in large battle paintings memorializing the feats of Napoleon (1769-1821). This Orientalist military subject records Napoleon's campaign in Egypt against the British Empire. It also demonstrates how spontaneously the artist could draw on the lithograph stone.
