After inheriting his father's country estate in 1886, Cézanne used it as his base, making numerous paintings of the grounds and the surrounding countryside. The farmhouse shown here is situated near the entrance to the main house. The artist may have made some of his works inside the building, but in this sun-drenched scene, he focuses on its warm-colored exterior walls.
