The caption reads: "The artist had promised his children a Sunday trip to the Französisch Bucholz—at that time a frequently visited pleasure spot—but the trip was cancelled because of the streaming rain and the carriage that failed to show up. To make up to them for the cancelled trip, he drew up a delightful image of the trip as planned, and the various family members can be identified therein."
