Occasionally Renoir's fantasy of female sensuality takes the form of woman as the exotic "other," as when he painted European models as odalisques (concubines in a harem). Here, a model draped in colorful silks holds a tea tray. Luxuriant red tones suffuse the scene, offset by the lime-green bedcover.
