American Mary Cassatt spent the majority of her adult life in Paris, where she found more opportunity and freedom as a woman artist than was possible in America. The mother-and-child pairing was one of Cassatt's favorite themes, and she tackled it in a variety of media, including oil painting, printmaking, and watercolor.
