Bouquet of Roses is a good example of the continual slippage in Renoir's work between flower imagery and the female form. The painter once mentioned that a sketch of roses was "research of flesh-tones of a nude." At the bottom right of this picture is a small female face in profile, with the flesh painted in the same pinks and whites used for the flower petals.
