ABOUT THIS WORK
Three of this altarpiece's five surviving panels were stolen from the Museo Regionale di Messina on the evening of August 15, 2026, during the city's Assumption celebrations; the Carabinieri are investigating. Antonello signed and dated the polyptych in 1473, and it survived the earthquake that leveled Messina in 1908. We are keeping it visible here in the hope that it comes home.
