This painting, from later in a Sanskrit text on yoga and meditation, shows the transmission of the teaching. The senior monk on a throne, who may also be the text’s author, faces a disciple with a sacred book on a stand under a canopy between them. Below is a pious assembly of lay followers and nuns.
