Although Jean Jacques de Boissieu's paintings were considered rather laborious, the roughly 140 etchings were widely admired, especially his views of Lyon and the surrounding countryside . The freshness of de Boissieu's approach and his skillful rendering of light lend an immediacy and authenticity to these works.
