FROM THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO’S CATALOG

This ancient marble vase—depicted by an unknown artist working in Italy—was owned by the Medici family and became a popular work for draftsmen to copy. Stefano della Bella made a famous etching after the same piece (1972.776).
