FROM THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO’S CATALOG

Attenuated and stylized floral and leaf forms characterized European dress-silk patterns from about 1695 to 1715. They have become known as “bizarre” silks for their fantastical designs, an amalgamation of Indian, Turkish, and Japanese influences seen through European eyes.
