Son of the renowned painter of interiors Giovanni Paolo Panini, Francesco worked with the etcher Giovanni Volpato to create monumental prints of his father’s painted views of the inside of Saint Peter’s, which he then deftly enhanced with watercolor, and in this case, with gilding.
