This bonnet veil was made by Mary Chadbourne Norton, the daughter of Major Winthrop Burnham Norton (1768–1844 [?]) and Dorothy Gowell (died 1831). She married Jairus Shaw Kieth (1793–1848) in 1826. The donor of this piece, Eugenia Keith Spring (d. 1920), was the daughter of the maker. This bonnet veil differs from the other two similar pieces (acc. nos. 1912.1633 & 1916.257 ) in this gallery in its shape and the use of tambour work, which was popular during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
