An extremely successful artist, Charles Nicholas Cochin surpassed his father's accomplishments as an engraver and played a critical role in mid-eighteenth-century academic life. Appointed guardian of the King's drawing collection in 1752, Cochin was well-situated politically and garnered many important commissions.
