FROM THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART’S CATALOG

Charles-Melchior Descourtis used the same technique as Jean-François Janinet to create passages of tone with almost no traces of tool work. He also superimposed a limited number of colors—yellow, red, blue, carmine, and black—to produce a variety of tints.
