FROM THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART’S CATALOG

Evenepoel was born in Belgium but moved to Paris around 1890 and tragically died at the age of 27. In the Square was his only major print and was issued by L’Estampe Moderne (The Modern Print), a publication that released monthly portfolios of original prints in editions of 150. Such publications, which proliferated during the 1890s, helped popularize printmaking.
