Glackens spent several summers in the quiet seaside community of Bellport, Long Island, where he painted his family and friends enjoying the sand and water. Here, six women lounge in the shade of trees and umbrellas with tangerine-colored stripes. The bright colors and dappled light effects reflect the artist's growing interest in French impressionist techniques.
