FROM THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART’S CATALOG

Threatened by the use of photomechanical methods to reproduce images in journals, printmakers formed various professional groups to demonstrate the artistic superiority of woodcut and wood engraving for the purpose of illustration. The Society of Wood Engravers (Société Corporative des Graveurs sur Bois) published a monthly art and literary review called L'Image (1896-97), in which Au Luxembourg appeared.
