This triptych, or three-sectioned painting, was created by an unidentified follower of the Dutch painter and engraver Lucas van Leyden. Van Leyden was known for his detailed rendering of objects, seen here in the finely painted fur around the green robe and the glass beads along the trim. The scene is continuous across all three landscapes, an invention of the late 15th century; the tradition had long been to treat each section as a wholly separate picture.
