Adamo belonged to a prominent family of printmakers in Mantua. This engraving is based on a preparatory drawing by Giulio Romano that relates to a fresco he painted in 1527 in the Sala dei Venti (Room of the Winds) in the Palazzo del Tè in Mantua.
