This etching shows a view of the Piazza San Marco with the Procuratie Nuove on the left, San Geminiano in the center background, and the Campanile of San Moise beyond. Numerous figures and stalls fill the piazza. This and thirty four other etchings by Canaletto were probably commissioned and financed by Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice.
