Hoüel’s oeuvre is dominated by images of landscapes in varied media. This ink and wash drawing portrays a scene of ordinary life in a verdant, mountainous environment. In the foreground, two men on horseback converse while others rest on a rock. On the left, the sail and rigging of a boat stalled in the harbor are visible.
