Yanone (The Arrowhead) was one of the most famous plays in the Ichikawa Danjuro family repertoire. Goro, the hero of the play, sharpens arrowheads as a friend comes to wish him a happy New Year. Corny jokes and the sight of Goro in flamboyant clothing made the play very popular.
